Botany

The department of Botany, Tura Government College, Tura came in to humble beginning with the introduction of Science stream in the year 1971. Initially, it was catering only to a Pre-University course under the University of Guwahati, Assam. In 1974 the institution was affiliated to North Eastern Hill University, Shillong and introduced Bsc pass course.  Subsequently, BSc Botany Honours course was started in the year 1993.

At Present, the department of Botany is permanently affiliated to North Eastern Hill University offering BSc Botany Honours course with the subject combination of Zoology, Chemistry as elective subjects. English and Environmental studies are compulsory. The entire course comprises of six semesters spread over 3 years.

A candidate desiring to pursue the course must pass the qualifying examinations i.e class-XII (Science) or equivalent examination from a recognised Board in India or aboard which is considered as equivalent by the University.

The department has its own laboratories, classrooms with ICT facilities and full strength of qualified, dedicated and competent faculty members. Apart from classroom activities, the department conducts exposure trip, Study tour etc regularly.

Being in the hot spot region of Biodiversity the department is striving to collect wide varieties of indigenous plants in the form of Herbaria and bottle specimens. The faculty members and students participate actively in achieving the vision of the department.

Over the years, the department has produced many graduates culminating with their higher studies. Our joy and prides lies with the success of our students not only in their academics, but also for proficiently discharging their duties in various Government and Non-government responsibilities for the development of society and to the nation as a whole.

NAAC

The college has a duly appointed IQAC and NAAC steering Committee working tirelessly to get Accreditation from NAAC in the next few years. IQAC headed by Shri Tejan A Momin, Coordinator & Head, Department of Physics is embarked on a path of Quality Initiatives, Quality Sustenance and Quality Enhancement in the college. The college is affiliated to North Eastern Hill University, Shillong since 1958 and is recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956. The NAAC steering Committee created for this purpose and the various Convenors of the different criterion are working hard to prepare the Self-Study Report (SSR) of the institution and submit to NAAC office Bangalore for assessment and accreditation. The Self Study report was prepared and uploaded to NAAC on 17-02-2022 and has prequalified on 24-04-2022 for further assesment .
