Physics Department, Tura Govt. College, first came into existence in the year 1971, with the introduction of Science Stream in the college. In the beginning for few years, the department was catering to only Classes XI and XII, named in those days as Pre-University Science under affiliation to Guwahati University of Assam. Afterwards B Sc Pass Course was introduced and subsequently with the establishment of North Eastern Hill University, the department became affiliated to NEHU.
The department is now permanently affiliated to North Eastern Hill University, Shillong and conducts 3 Year B Sc Physics Honours Course under Semester System since 2015.
Since its inception, we are fortunate to have sincere and dedicated teachers in the department. Teachers strive tirelessly to achieve the goals set by our predecessors to give confidence to the youth of the region to go for higher studies in Science, particularly Physics.
In our department, students are constantly motivated and encouraged to follow the 3-Ss, “Sincere - Systematic - Study” without which it is difficult to crack a subject like Physics. Over the years, many of our students have obtained the Graduation Degree in Physics, pursued higher studies and are doing well in their lives. Some of our students have secured positions in the “University Top 10 Ranks”.
We are proud of our students, some of whom have become teachers themselves, in Higher Secondary Schools, Colleges and even University.
“Teachers have produced Teachers” in the subject, and that too Teachers much better than we are!!!
