Facilities

The infrasturcture set up at the college is spread across diffrent Blocks like Administrative Building, the Arts Block, the Science Block, the Commerce Block, the College Canteen, the Boy's Hostel, the Girls Hostel, the Teachers Quarters, the Auditorium and additional Class Rooms.

The College campus consists of 7 separate blocks. It has 3 streams: Science, Arts and Commerce streams. It has 25 classrooms with a total seating capacity of 1307 seats. The Arts stream has 12 classrooms, commerce has 5 classrooms and science has 8 classrooms. The classrooms have adequate number of benches and desks. It is fully equiped with blackboards, whiteboards and 2 classrooms are equiped with sound sysytems. All classrooms are well lighted and airy.

The College has 14 laboratories (2 dark rooms): 5 in Physics Department, 2 in Botany Department, 3 in Chemistry Department, 1 in Geography Department and 1 Computer Lab.

All the Labs have enough seating capacity and sufficient laboratory equipment.

The college has an auditorium with a seating capacity of 450. It is used for organising seminars and various programs. There is also one conference hall with a seating capacity of 30. It is equipped with AC and ICT facility.

Hostel accomodation is available for both boys and girls. The girls and boys hostels are supervised by Wardens appointed from among the Lecturers of the college. Separate admission procedure is followed for this facility after admission to the college.

The NSS Unit Govt. College is one of the oldest in the North Eastern Region with over 800 volunteers with its motto "NOT ME BUT YOU" provides opportunity to the student to take part in various governments led or community led service activities & programmes promoting selfless service. The number of students enrolled in the college unit ranges from class XI to degree level classes, but after delinking of Class XI and XII from the degree level the enrolment of student covers only from degree level i.e., first semester to final semester students.

An active volunteer are given exposure to various types of activities; 

  • National Integration Camp,
  • Adventure Programme,
  • NSS Republic Day Parade Camp,
  • National Youth Festivals,
  • Special Camping Programme,
  • Awareness Programme on various issues,
  • Training on various community services, etc.

There are various types of activities are being undertaken;

  • Adventure programme,
  • Trekking to important areas,
  • Special Camping in adopted villages,
  • Tree plantation,
  • Awareness programme on environment, sanitation, gender sensitisation, drugs misuse, blood donation, legal issues, educational, etc.
  • Various calendar events are observed and organised every year like the World Environment Day, International Yoga Day, International Biodiversity Day, Vanamahatsova, Blood Donors Day, World AIDS Day, etc.

Awards

  1. Shri Firdosh Adokgre Momin, Programme Officer since 2009 was awarded as a Best Programme Officer in 2012.
  2. Smt. Batsachi Rikambe T. Sangma, Geography (Hons) was awarded as a Best Volunteer in 2018.
  3. The Tura Government College Unit was awarded as one of the Best Unit in 2018.

Two Volunteers has participated in the NSS Republic Day Parade from 1st- 31st January 2015 at New Delhi.

Student,both boys and Girls are encouraged to join the NCC so as to imbibe the spirit of patriotism and National Integration and participate in trainings, parades and adventure sports like parasailing, trekking, mountaineering and parachuting. The NCC cadets of the college have winning the best contigent award for number of year now at the Republic Day and Independence Day parades

The Government College Students Union(TGCSU) is democratically elected by the Degree students of the college for a term of one year in aqccordance with the recommendation of J.M.Lyngdoh to Committee on Students 'Body and Students' union Elections accepted by the Honourable Supreme Court. It is vibrant organization amd works for welfare of their fellow students.

Adequate facilities are provided to students intrested in Games and sports. Competitions in Badminton, Volleyball, Cricket, Football, Basketball etc. are organized every year during the Annual College Week and students are encouraged to participate in Inter-College Competitions organized by various Sports Associations at the National and State Levels. Indoor Games like T.T., Carom. Chess etc. are available. A Basketball court is located inside the college Premises along with a separate playground within the College Campus.

Study Tours are conducted regularly for Science student and Exposure trips are organised every year for the students, who wish to visit places outside the state.

Eligible students may apply for scholarship to the Government through the college as per the provisions through the college.

The Government provides essential commodities such as S.K. oil at subsidized rates to students through the college.

The Annual College Week is held annually as per University's Academic Calender. Sports, games, debates and cultural competitions are held for students to oromote team spirit on a house-wise basis.

The College offers Computer facilities to all students.

The college computer laboratory has 18 sets of computers. It has LAN connections and an LCD projector.

As a technology enabled learning spaces, the college has 39 numbers of computers available for student use; the Physics department has 8 sets of computers  and Zoology also has one classroom with 8 sets of computers  and computer lab with 18 numbers of desktops. The science departments have 6 rooms with ICT facility equipped with LCD projectors. Geography department has one desktop and a classroom fitted with LCD projector. Maths department has two sets of desktops. All Arts departments have laptops.

The College bring out a College magazine every year to encourage the students in literary activities. Besides, students,are encouraged to take part in various cultural activities at the District level. Many students have come out with flying colors at various cultural meets. Debates, Quizzes, Essay Competition, Painting & Drawing Competitions are organized during the course of the academic year.

The Library is automated using Library Management system software e-LIB. For optimal use of the software all the computers are connected via LAN.   A Separate computer of 5 desktops have been installed for students and faculty for access to (OPAC). The library is subscribed to N-List, through which the students and teacher can access to INFLIB-NET. The reading room is spacious and well ventilated. The library also has photo copier facility for the students and the faculty.

A college Bus is available for teachers staff and students to be utilized in connection with the various activities of the College.

NAAC

The college has a duly appointed IQAC and NAAC steering Committee working tirelessly to get Accreditation from NAAC in the next few years. IQAC headed by Shri Tejan A Momin, Coordinator & Head, Department of Physics is embarked on a path of Quality Initiatives, Quality Sustenance and Quality Enhancement in the college. The college is affiliated to North Eastern Hill University, Shillong since 1958 and is recognized under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956. The NAAC steering Committee created for this purpose and the various Convenors of the different criterion are working hard to prepare the Self-Study Report (SSR) of the institution and submit to NAAC office Bangalore for assessment and accreditation. The Self Study report was prepared and uploaded to NAAC on 17-02-2022 and has prequalified on 24-04-2022 for further assesment .
